Meet the Chairman
Dr Michael Warner is a trainer, author and consultant in the practice of Local Content management. He is currently Director of the training and consultancy firm Local Content Solutions. He has over twenty years experience aligning business interests and company performance with the economic, social and environmental priorities of host countries, and has worked across 30 countries, in Europe, Africa, S.E Asia, Middle East and Latin America, and consulted to BP, Shell, BG, Total, World Bank, IFC, WEF, DFID, UNDP, Newmont, Anglo American, Alcan, AMEC, Balfour Beatty, Sodexho and others.
Dr Warner was Local Content and Supply Chain Sustainability Manager for the BG Group from 2008 to 2010, where he worked in the Contracts and Procurement function as architect of BG policy, procurement procedures and country strategies for Local Content across the Group. He was also responsible for the Group’s risk-based procedures for supply chain sustainability, which were launched across the Group in 2010/11.
Between 1998 and 2001 he was Co-ordinator of the Oil, Gas and Mining Secretariat of a World Bank programme Business Partners for Development (BPD). He spent eight years as a Research Fellow with the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) as Director of the Business and Development Programme, working on Local Content and inclusive business in the oil, gas, mining, agriculture, infrastructure and ICT sectors. Whilst at ODI, in collaboration with the International Business Leaders Forum, he co-founded the highly successful Partnership Brokers Accreditation Scheme (PBAS). He currently runs the LCS Master Class in Local Content.
Dr Warner has made appearances to discuss business and international development on BBC Newsnight, BBC Radio 4, BBC World Service and CNBC, and is the source of articles in Newsweek Magazine and The Guardian Newspaper. He is the author of a number of books on business and development, and of the forthcoming book “Local Content in Procurement”, to be published by Greenleaf Publishing.
